ATTITUDE

This is the single important aspect of your preparation for going to Mexico. Make sure that you come prepared as SERVANTS! If you are adaptable, flexable, and willing to serve (in what ever capcity), you are ready for Mexico. Be prepared to have to stand around and wait. Also come as LEARNERS and OBSERVERS, not as typical obnoxious, arrogant, boisterous, "touristy" Americans. Remember that you are REPRESENTATIVES and AMBASSADORS of our country, your city, family, church, and of Jesus Christ.

ACCOMODATIONS

We are staying in a dormitory in florido. The dormitory has a kitchen area that includes a stove and refrigerator that are available for our use. There is running water BUT DON'T DRINK IT!!!! Drinking water will be provided. We will be sleeping on bunkbeds, so you will need to bring a sleeping bag. We will be able to take showers at a local public bath-house for approximately $2.50 per person.

CLOTHES

In mexico the rule is MODESTY. Be neat and conservative. No shorts, tank tops, torn clothing, open toed shoes or sandals.

Females - You will need work clothes ( jeans, tee shirts, work shirts etc.) work shoes or sneakers. Please be as modest as possible.

Males - You will need work clothes ( jeans, tee shirts, work shirts etc.) work shoes or sneakers. Be sure to keep your shirt on even while working.

MEALS

We will stop at a grocery store in San Diego to buy breakfast and lunch foods, drinks and water. Please refer to the attached "shopping list" for food purchase suggestions. PLease note, we will provide some of the food items. Each person is responsible for purchacing thier personal food and drinks. There are cooking facilities and a refrigerator available at the dorm. We will eat our evening meals at a local restaurant. These meals typically cost about $5.00/meal.

TOOLS

There will be plenty of tools on hand.

HEALTH

THE WEATHER CAN BE DECEPTIVELY HOT. To avoid sun stroke, heat exhaustion or dehydration wear a hat, get plenty of shade and drink plenty of water. Do not play with the animals. We recommend that you get a tetanus shot if yours is not up to date. Minors traveling without thier parent must bring a medical release form. Everyone should bring their health insuance policy number.

CULTURE

Mexico is a people oriented culture. It doesn't focus on productivity, plans, effectiveness or getting the job done. Make sure that the people, not the job, take priority. Being polite is very important....shake hands alot, smile, say gracias and por favor. We will be in the midst of poverty. Don't stare, point, make faces, or noises.

CHILDREN

There are usually children everywhere!! Enjoy them, play with them, let them help you work. Don't let them into our vehicles or into the dorm. You may want to take along some small gifts/candy to give to them, but do not give money to them.

VALUABLES

You are encouraged to bring cameras and even video equipment along to help document your adventure. Don't bring excessive jewelry or "gadgets". The dorm is locked when we are gone, so any valuables left in the dorm should be safe.
